Do you want more radiant, healthy and younger looking skin?  You should know about IPL Skin Rejuvenation.

  • Is your face showing signs of sun damage?
  • Are you starting to notice age spots on your face or hands?
  • Is redness, capillary damage or rosacea making your complexion look uneven?
  • Are you troubled by large and dilated pores?

What is an IPL Photofacial?

An IPL Photofacial is a gentle, state-of-the-art approach to making your skin look younger and smoother. The process treats the full face, neck, chest or hands, rather than simply one isolated area or imperfection - although spot treatments are available.

A series of IPL Photofacial treatments can rejuvenate your complexion without downtime or a prolonged recovery process. The process is easy to fit into your busy schedule, a full facial treatment can be completed in an hour or less.

What does IPL stand for?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. This revolutionary facial treatment method is not a laser. Unlike lasers, which operate on one wavelength, IPL use a broad spectrum light source called flashlight technology to achieve photo rejuvenation.

How does an IPL Photofacial work?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a therapy that utilizes multi-wavelength broad spectrum light throughout the electromagnetic spectrum.  It can be used to eradicate brown spots and red blood vessels and subsequently improve the appearance of the skin in a relatively short time with no downtime. When the darkly pigmented cells of the skin absorb the light, energy is released in the form of heat which causes the destruction of the cell. In the case of spider veins or broken capillaries which can be an issue for many people given the sometimes cold climate or a result of rosacea, the energy is absorbed by the red blood cells and the heat is transferred to the wall of the blood vessel which is then destroyed. In both of these methods, little energy is dissipated to the surrounding tissue. Thus, the surrounding tissue is not injured and the skin surface remains unharmed.

These light pulses not only target pigmentation and redness, but also deposit heat into the dermal layers of the skin where collagen is produced. The result: your skin is stimulated to produce new collagen and connective tissue giving you improved elasticity and a younger, smoother more luminous appearance.

What can IPL Photofacials treat?

  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Enlarged and dilated pores
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Rosacea
  • Age spots (sun-induced freckles) and hyperpigmentation
  • Most benign brown pigments
  • Dilated blood vessels
  • Redness caused by broken capillaries (telangiectasia)

Who is a good candidate for IPL Photofacials?

If you have Fitzpatrick Skin Type 1-4 (a light to medium complexion) and want to remove hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) caused by sun exposure, age, hormonal influences or some medications - you are a very good candidate for IPL Photofacials.

Who is not a good candidate for IPL Photofacials?

If you have a darker complexion, you are more likely to suffer an adverse reaction from an IPL Photofacial because of the greater amount of melanin in your skin.

How will your skin look right after an IPL Photofacial?

Immediately after an IPL Photofacial your face will be moderately red, a condition known as erythema and may feel warm to the touch, as after a minor sunburn. There may also be some slight swelling, or edema. These effects, which typically last for one to three hours after the treatment, are normal. They are a sign that the intensity of the IPL is in the proper range to stimulate rejuvenation. An ultrasound gel is used during the treatment to calm the skin. Soothing serums are applied after the procedure as well. You should be able to return to work or social activities immediately.

How will the skin react in the days following an IPL Photofacial?

If you are being treated for hyperpigmented areas, those areas of the skin will be darker after an IPL Photofacial as the pigment is lifted to the skin's surface. Over the next seven days, the darkened areas will appear as dry patches; they will become slightly crusty and will slough off revealing smoother, younger looking skin. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun following an IPL Photofacial. It is important to wear sunscreen and limit your exposure to the sun to less than 30 minutes.

What results can you expect?

Your skin will have a more even tone and will look and feel smoother after your very first treatment. As you continue your series of IPL Photofacials, you will see progressive improvements. Fine lines and wrinkles will diminish, your pores will appear smaller and sun-induced freckling will fade. If you have rosacea, you will see reduced redness in your complexion after every treatment. Studies have shown that redness related to rosacea can be reduced by up to 80% to 90%.

How many treatments are typically needed?

The number of IPL Photofacial treatments you will need depends on the condition of your skin. Results vary from patient to patient; we will advise you on the number of treatments you will need to achieve the results you desire at your consultation.

Some general guidelines:

Sun damage (hyperpigmentation) - 6 treatments

Broken capillaries - 3 treatments

Rosacea - 3 to 6 treatments

Enlarged pores - 3 treatments

Fine lines and wrinkles - 6 or more treatments

Age spots - 6 treatments

How often should you have an IPL treatment?

IPL Photofacial treatments should be scheduled at least three to four weeks apart to allow time for your skin to respond to previous treatments.  IPL Photofacials can also be combined with chemical peels and mircrodermabrasion to optimize your results.

Hair Removal with IPL

Unwanted hair can be very stressful and embarrassing for both men and women. IPL, an advanced approach to beautiful skin, provides the ultimate solution. Now, men and women alike will be pleased with the results made possible by the IPL Laser Hair Removal process.

What is the IPL Laser Hair Removal process?

The IPL process uses intense pulsed light to gently remove unwanted hair, putting an end to routine shaving and waxing. IPL treatments leave your skin looking and feeling smoother and silkier. This patented technology transcends the older, painful hair removal treatments to deliver long lasting results. IPL's wide beam treats larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs and face rather than treating one hair at a time. Best of all, IPL treatments are a safe, fast, gentle and effective alternative method for hair removal.

What are the benefits of IPL hair removal?

• Larger areas may be treated at one time relatively quickly.

• It works equally well with lighter or dark hair and skin.

• There is less chance of scarring and pigmentation change.

• Less pain and discomfort compared to other hair removal treatments.

• IPL is effective on almost any area of the body.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on the area you wish to have treated, the hair density and your hair's growth cycle. Your hair grows in cycles and many factors influence its growth. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism all play a part in your hair's location, thickness and resilience.   IPL slows the growing capacity of follicles in the growth cycle at the time of the treatment. Since some hair follicles may enter their growth cycle after your treatment, six to ten treatments may be required to deliver optimal results. Note: removing hair does not make it grow back thicker, darker or quicker. The opposite is usually the case, IPL treatments generally cause hair to come back more slowly and thinner.

How does the IPL process differ from electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a very slow process. With electrolysis, a needle is inserted into each individual hair follicle. Once inserted, an electric shock burns the follicle to retard growth. IPL hair removal treatments only use intense pulsed light energy.  IPL hair removal can safely and effectively eliminate hair that is red, llight brown, brown and black.   With the IPL process, we can gently treat hair in sensitive areas such as the lip, aerolas and bikini line while maintaining a healthy, normal appearance of the surrounding tissues. Treatments can last from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of the area being treated.

What can you expect following treatment?

After your treatment, the area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities immediately. Your technician may recommend that you use a specially formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regime especially formulated for your skin type. The use of sun screen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun and it is important to limit exposure to the sun following treatment.
